A New King, A New Day

It's now 2025, and as I began my annual read through Exodus, I was struck immediately by the shift that occurred in Egypt as recorded on vs.1:8, "Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing came to power in Egypt."

Secondly, the unlikely narrative around Moses' sister and Pharoah's daughter, apparently smitten sufficiently by this 3 months old child to disobey her father, which as a female of that day, placing herself in great jeopardy.

Then Moses makes his first move at about age 40, intervening on behalf of his Hebrew kin, only to be betrayed; a very similar narrative to a future baby born in Bethlehem.

How all this story line was so fully captured, whether from written and oral history, while Moses was around 80 years old and surrounded by a multitude of dependent exiles is difficult for me to comprehend, myself now approaching 80.

No wonder those who have never experienced a spiritual "rebirth" are raising questions, especially with the drama now unfolding in America.

No longer can we simply "parrot" a belief system without demonstration of some uncommon inner strength, layered with compassionate, "long-suffering" toward others. Even at times self-sacrifice.

Welcome to a new era in the Christ journey! Just being real, while anchored by an experience that seems quite unique in our day and time.

BTW, I still believe in "burning bushes!"
