Our Bodies, A Real Piece Of Work

Updated: Jun 24, 2023

Sitting here this morning, post devotional time and after a preliminary review of a message prepared for a nearby church tomorrow.

For some reason my thoughts were then drawn to the reality of who I am as a flesh and blood being, my physiology, apart from the all the often quite robust spirit, soul activity of my typical morning.

The term deoxyribonucleic acid comes to mind. I know that's atypical for the early Saturday morning first thoughts kind of thing, even for me.

The hairs on my partially clothed legs, the melanin, the growing number of age spots, my muscle tissue and systems functioning beneath my skin all amaze me.

All because of molecules inside my cells that contain the genetic information responsible for the development and function of all organisms. DNA molecules allow this information to be passed from one generation to the next.

Deoxyribonucleic acid is a polymer composed of two polynucleotide chains that coil around each other to form a double helix. The polymer carries genetic instructions for the development, functioning, growth and reproduction of all known organisms and many viruses.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made, a PIECE of God that truly passes understanding. A piece never assigned to another and critical to humanity that I/you unpack our distinct pieces, each sovereignly ordained for this moment, chemically assured by the very molecules once contained in our mom & dad, theirs by way of ancestors past!

Here I sit, my heart beating while my lungs repeat the Name of Yahweh with each inhale, exhale and with no conscious thought on my part.

I find that marvelous, morseo now with my third cup of coffee.

Enjoy your day, my fellow human.
